What Exactly is a Denture?

Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back into your mouth. There are two main types of dentures: full and partial. With full dentures, a flesh-colored acrylic base fits over your gums. The base of the upper denture covers the palate, while that of the lower denture is in the shape of a horseshoe to accommodate your tongue. Resin teeth are carefully positioned in the acrylic base to create a natural-looking smile.

Different Dentures for Different Needs

Take control of your smile today. Below are the different types of available dentures. During your exam, our experienced team of dentists will partner with you to determine the type of dentures best suited for your needs.

Overdenture

From the outside an overdenture looks just like a regular denture. However, with an overdenture, anchors (either natural teeth retained under the denture, or implants) provide support to hold the denture in place.

Conventional Full Denture

A conventional full denture is most often used to replace an existing denture. All teeth have previously been removed.

Immediate Full Denture

An immediate full denture is inserted immediately after the remaining teeth are removed. While immediate dentures offer the benefit of never having to be without your smile, they must be relined several months after being inserted. This is because the bone supporting the dentures reshapes as it heals, causing the denture to become loose.

Implant Dentures

No more denture mishaps – Give your denture the support it needs. Implants are ideal for providing support and retention for a denture. Don’t waste another day feeling frustrated and disappointed with a denture that slips. Have the confidence to eat what you want, where you want. Ask us about the new All-on-4 Implant Denture.

Partial Denture

A partial denture rests on a metal framework that attaches to your natural teeth. It can be a cost-effective way to replace several missing teeth at once. When missing teeth aren’t replaced, a chain reaction ensues that can result in increased periodontal disease and cavities.

A partial denture also helps balance your bite. This means you’ll chew better and have a healthier jaw joint. Partials also add support to your cheeks and lips. This support is necessary to speak clearly and look your best. Partial dentures offer a removable alternative to bridges and implants.

All-On-4 Implant Dentures

The All-On-4 Implant Denture gives a whole new meaning to the term denture. Simply put, this is a denture built on 4 implants. The denture can either be removable, or fixed. The All-on-4 treatment concept was developed to provide denture wearers with an efficient and effective appliance, using only four implants for support. The concept includes the immediate use of the implants to support the denture, without the delay of healing time. You’ll often see this advertised as Dentures in a Day. Regardless of the pros and cons to building dentures in a day, the All-on-4 system has taken denture wearing to a new level of satisfaction
